Don’t Forget Your Running Shoes for the Jeepers Creepers Run Half Marathon

On October 13, 2019, the city of Camarillo, CA begins its celebration of Halloween with the Jeepers Creepers Run at Pleasant Valley Fields Park. The races for the day include a 5K, 10K and half-marathon with staggered start times. While elite runners can test their speed, the flat courses along the Camarillo Bike Trail make this an excellent event for amateurs and first-time racers. The half-marathon has an ample, four-hour time limit allowing racers to walk if they need to.

All participants will receive a finisher medal, an official water bottle, a t-shirt, and a reusable goody bag. In addition, runners of age are entitled to a plate of tacos and a beer at the finish area. Friends and family can also purchase tacos and beer for four dollars.

There are prizes for the top three runners in every age group. There are also prizes for the best Halloween costumes in the race. Tie up your running shoes and don your costume for this fun and spooky event.

There are many options for hotels if you are spending a few nights in the area. Camarillo is about an hour from the attractions around Los Angeles and only a few minutes from the Malibu Beaches.

Southern California has a long tradition of fine dining experiences. The Camarillo area is no different with many restaurants to explore for food and drink. The local cuisine is highly influenced by the area’s close proximity to both the Pacific Ocean and Mexico. Whether you are looking for a quick bite or a gourmet meal, you can find an excellent choice nearby. In Camarillo, you might try the Lure Fish House, Twenty88, or the Money Pancho Mexican Restaurant.

What to do: Shopping, Hiking, and History

After you recover from your run, you might want to take some time to explore the area. The Thousand Oaks region has many entertaining and exciting options.

Wherever you stay near Camarillo, you are only a few minutes away from the beaches of Malibu. Relax and enjoy the white sand and waves.

Local shopping centers include the Camarillo Premium Outlets, The Oaks Mall and Westlake Plaza. You will find familiar shops as well as local specialty stores.

  • Hiking

Point Mugu State Park offers hiking trails of various levels of difficulty. Runners enjoy the challenge of running up Mugu Peak. There are also scenic trails with dramatic ocean views. 

You can find a more casual walk at the Gardens of the World Park in Thousand Oaks. Here you can explore donated gardens from France, England, Italy, and Japan.
