Missed gym again? You are not alone. We all buy expensive gym memberships. Make countless promises to ourselves and our loved ones that today is our last day of lethargy but all in vain. Luckily, if not drastically, simple changes in your lifestyle will make you much healthier and encourage unintentional weight loss.

1. Eat Slow

eat-slowWe eat food like we are missing a train. The speed with which we stuff food in our mouth is astounding. Researchers say when we eat faster we tend to eat more. The science behind this is actually quite simple. Our brain registers food 20 minutes after food reaches our stomach. It takes even longer to start feeling full. Eating slower ensures our food gets registered in a time frame where we haven’t already stuffed ourselves.

Another way we can unintentionally lose weight is to manage our food psychologically is if we begin our meal with a salad. Salads are healthy and usually have lesser calories (do not eat your salad with cheese dressing or thousand island.) Salads are not very delicious either so your urge to eat food is automatically curbed.

Chew on each bite before you swallow it. It is hard to change your chewing habits but it can be done with a little effort on your part. Not only does this ensure that you eat slower, it also helps as more energy is absorbed from food that is broken down. You need that energy for the next advice I am about to give to you.

2. Walk

walking-on-beachNow I understand what you are thinking. I just promised you that you can unintentional weight loss without having to exercise. Don’t worry I am not asking you to devote your precious time for a 60 minute morning jog. I am not even asking you to take an evening stroll to the park.

All I want you to do is that if you take our car to the office; find a spot that is a little further from the main building. You automatically include a short walk in your routine. If your house is on the 6th floor, use the lift to reach the 5th floor and walk up just one flight of stairs. This will not take up much of your time however will help you achieve a little activity in your life. Walking up the stairs is a great exercise for love handles, thighs and your butt.

Our bodies are used to our normal routine. If a person exercises regularly, their metabolism is adjusted in accordance with it. If another has no activity in his life, their metabolism is considerably slower. When you even include a little extra activity in your life it will boost up your metabolism. It is just how bodies work. Understanding your body will greatly help in your unintentional weight loss process.

3. Watch What You Eat

watch-what-you-eatUnintentional weight loss definitely requires some conscious effort. Researchers have proven that weight loss depends 60% on what you eat and 40% on the exercise that your body gets. So it is important that you know what is going into your mouth.

There are countless calorie counting apps that are available for smartphones; iOS and Android alike. My favourite app has to be My Fitness Pal. It has got homemade as well as packaged cuisines from around the world to keep track of how many calories go into your system. You can track your weight on it and set a goal which you want to achieve. It will tell you how many calories you can eat in a day in order to lose weight. It also lets you set healthy weight loss goals.

If you want to lose weight, there are some foods that you should avoid altogether, which include:

  • Sodas and Energy Drinks (They are full of sugar even diet sodas are not good when trying to lose weight)
    White rice/ white bread
  • Sugar (If you really want to have deserts after a meal, fruit is the way to go!)
  • Alcohol (Heard of a beer belly? Alcohol consumption even if it isn’t in the form of a cocktail helps you put on weight)

On the other hand there are foods and drinks that encourage weight loss

  • Green Tea (Unflavoured) Green tea is an anti oxidant, not only does it help drop pounds, it is has great health benefits.
  • Yoghurt (Unflavoured) Yoghurt has bacteria that helps reduce fat from your belly and encourages digestion of food.
  • Watermelon (with a high water content the fruit helps you remove water weight from your body)
  • Berries (having a bowl of berries for breakfast helps improve your skin hair and nails as well)

The solutions mentioned above will greatly help unintentional weight loss especially during the initial stages but I will be lying if i don’t tell you that pairing this up with a little workout will greatly enhance the results.
